Every year, the shingle roofing experts at Coates Bros. Roofing attend the Annual Safety Day meeting where our crews are updated on current safety regulations and company policies. This meeting allows employees to stay up to date on the most recent changes in the industry, which also allows us to provide the best quality service to our customers.
This year, our presentation followed the theme “Things May be Different than they Seem.” The theme was set with the hopes of helping our employees look beyond the surface of a situation. In the shingle roofing industry, there are many layers to each job we complete. It can sometimes be difficult to communicate in situations which causes confusion and frustration. Our Safety Day presentation shared ways to help our employees better communicate to create a cohesive, safe working environment for everyone.
We also hosted two guest speakers for Safety Day this year; Brent Webb, a world-renowned motivational entertainer and Ruth Bowdish, director of training and development at On Demand Drugs. Webb’s presentation included fantastic illusions that wowed our employees, while sending the important message that we don’t always know the whole story of a situation. Bowdish gave a striking presentation of how the current drug culture is effecting fields like ours, and how being under even the slightest influence of any drug, recreational or prescription, can be detrimental to the safety of an entire crew.
Safety Day is first and foremost an educational day, but is also a great opportunity for the office and field members to discuss any areas that are lacking. It also allows them to get to know crew members they may not work with every day. We are a team here at Coates Bros. Roofing, and we believe each employee has a voice in our company that will be heard and respected. Safety Day allows each employee to express any concerns they might have so they can be addressed properly, creating a better and safer work place for all of our shingle roofing crews.
